10 Things to Do Over Spring Break to Keep Busy
As much as we would all like to be on a beach right now or even just hanging with some friends, that is not the reality we will be getting this week. It is going to be difficult to motivate ourselves to get out of bed and actually do something productive with the day, especially without school to keep us motivated so we have compiled a list of 10 free or very cheap activities that will cure your boredom and give you something semi-productive to do.
Podcasts are the newest craze right now and they are a great way to learn something new, get a new perspective on something, or listen to some awesome stories. Spotify is a free app that has 1,000s to choose from and if you don't see anything you like just make your own! Open up the voice memos app and get going, the world is your oyster!
2. Art Therapy
Pick up a pencil and piece of paper and you are set. Draw something right in front of you or look up how to draw something on the internet. Artistic endeavors can really ease the mind in a time of uncertainty and can help you express your feelings. Create something for mom or dad, or just make something you want to keep for yourself.
3. Learn a Dance
Yes, we mean tiktok. There's no denying that most teens with internet access have fallen suit to the new craze of tik tok dances and unless you are a professional, it is a pretty time consuming endeavor. Renegading is not only time consuming, but it can get you up and moving which is super important!
It is so important to remember to move your body everyday. With school being at home now we don't even get our steps walking from class to class. There are tons of free resources out there if you are looking for a structured workout and some of the best are listed on our resources page!
5. Go Outside
We have been cooped up inside so much recently that you may not have noticed how great the weather is outside. It is so beautiful and as of now it will be this way for the whole week. This means its a great time to take a walk around the neighborhood or lay a towel on your front lawn, close your eyes, and pretend you're at the beach. Another great option is to make something with chalk! You may have some lying around the house and it is also a great creative outlet.
6. Cook Something New
It's a great time to learn how to cook. Using sites like supercook.com you can enter whatever ingredients you already have at home and they will give you recipes to choose from. If you want to venture out of your comfort zone hit up Pinterest for a new idea and head to the grocery store!
7. Read A Book
While we usually look at reading as a task and something we have to do for school, reading something you actually enjoy can totally change your thoughts about it. There are books that cover literally everything in the world and there is bound to be one you look so get looking around your house, on the internet, or take a quick trip to Barnes and Noble to find your next read.
8. Watch a New Show or A Movie
There's nothing wrong with taking a day to binge out on your couch and get really into a new show or movie. If you don't know what to watch you can check out our Ultimate Quarantine Movie List featured on the website.
9. FaceTime a friend/family member
Sometimes it can definitely slip our minds that we haven't called Grandma back in 2 weeks and now is the perfect time to do that. It is also super important to remember to stay connected to your friends right now, even if you can't be together in real life. Call an old friend, a new friend, or your best friend for a quick catchup - you won't regret it ;).
